Xinjiang Micro-Finance

A sustainable and successful model for poverty reduction through micro-enterprise development and access to credit was designed and implemented in northwest China for Muslim women and their families. The programme included micro-enterprise business planning and a self-managed village cooperative credit model that empowered women to develop and finance individual and group enterprises, increase savings and ensure their families had access to basic healthcare and their children attended school. This programme continues to operate in Xinjiang and has been replicated to other regions in China.
